SUMMER READING GRANT AWARD

Central Maine Federal Credit Union has awarded its Summer Reading Grant to the Auburn Public Library. The grant is awarded to programs that encourage reading and literacy in children during the summer months. The application is open to all public and school libraries in Androscoggin County. The summer reading grant was established in 2008 as an extension of the Credit Union’s “Books for Kids Program” that donates books to Androscoggin County School libraries annually. The goal of the program is to encourage children to read and to assist the community it serves by providing learning opportunities through reading.

The Auburn Public Library was selected for its “One World, Many Stories” 2011 summer reading program. The staff has created a fun, interactive way to get children reading and researching. The infamous story time puppet, Pinecone Pete, will travel the world looking for interesting places and fascinating stories to share with the children. This grant will enable the Auburn Public Library to purchase a world map, books and prizes for the participants.
