AwardsCentral Maine Credit Union won 3 First Place Awards at the Maine Credit Union League Convention in Augusta, May 20-21, 2011.
The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award was created to encourage and honor credit union involvement in community projects and activities. The award is named after a dedicated community activist who remained committed to credit union development, to her community, and to serving the underserved throughout her life. Central Maine Credit Union won for its entry about our "Books for KidsProgram."
The Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award, named for one of the original signers of the 1934 constitution that created CUNA, recognizes credit unions that do an extraordinary job incorporating credit union philosophy into daily operations. Central Maine Credit Union won for its entry about our Monty Moose Youth Savers Program.
The Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement on behalf of youth financial literacy. It considers all activities supporting the personal finance education of young members. Central Maine Credit Union won for its "Teen Program."
This is the ninth consecutive year Central Maine Credit Union has one the Dora Maxwell and Louise Herring Awards. It is the first time for the Desjardins Award. National Awards: All First Place Awards qualify for the National competition to be held later this year. Central Maine Credit Union received a Second Place National Award for the 2010 Louise Herring Award.
Central Maine Credit Union received a National Award from the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) in March 2011 at CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, D.C. Central Maine Credit Union's "Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award" was on display at the GAC and featured in the Credit Union Magazine and the GAC Conference Daily. This award, named for one of the original signers of the 1934 constitution that created CUNA, recognizes credit unions that do an extraordinary job incorporating credit union philosophy into daily operations. DORA MAXWELL AWARD
In June 2010, Central Maine FCU received a First Place award in the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program for credit unions. The Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program, sponsored by the Maine Credit Union League and CUNA & Affiliates, honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities. The first-place entry is also entered into CUNA's National Competition which will be held in the fall. The competition is named after Dora Maxwell, a credit union pioneer, who worked with several organizations to improve the living standards of the poor and needy.
This is the eight consecutive year the Credit Union has received this award. This year's award was for the organization and sponsorship of the 5k Run/Walk for New Beginnings, an organization that helps troubled teens in our community.
For the past seven years, the Credit Union received this award for its involvement in community projects and activities for its unique program of "Books for Kids". The Credit Union donates new books to Androscoggin Public School libraries annually. The program also includes the Monty Moose Book Buddies Program. where Central Maine FCU employees volunteer every week to read to the children at Martel Elementary School in Lewiston. The program also includes Grants for Summer Reading Programs offered to Androscoggin County schools and public libraries.
LOUISE HERRING PHILOSOPHY IN ACTION AWARD
Central Maine FCU also received a First-place award in the Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award for credit unions. Sponsored by the Maine Credit Union League and CUNA & Affiliates, this award recognizes credit unions that demonstrate in an extraordinary way, the practical application of the credit union philosophy. Central Maine FCU received this award for making community service and philosophy in action part of the credit union difference through our Monty Moose Youth Savers Program, which encourages children to save and teaches them about their financial future.
